So anyway, since this is meant to be an art blog, I wanted to share my most recently completed project. The starting point was machinery.
Through this piece I wanted to explore what it means to be a machine. On Google a machine is defined as:
'an apparatus using or applying mechanical power and having several parts, each with a definite function and together performing a particular task'
This led me to question whether something can still be described as a machine if it has been deconstructed and then put back together in a way so that it is unable to perform its previous function. To the average eye it may still appear to be a machine but by definition it can no longer be described as such. My work is an abstraction of this concept; I reduced machinery to a series of shapes and connections. There is definitely still a mechanical feel to the piece, introduced through the cold, angular lines of the metal and perspex, but I tried to juxtapose this with the playful use of colour, textiles and soft textures of the foam.
